Solitaire Du Figaro
HISTORY: The 45th edition of La Solitaire du Figaro, the world championships for single-handed yachtsmen and women, arrived into Plymouth’s Sutton Harbour in June 2014 for the city’s debut hosting of this highly prestigious event, marking the first time the race has called at a UK port for 11 years.
Following the huge success of the America’s Cup in Plymouth in 2011, the visit of the Solitaire fleet reinforced Plymouth’s newly established position as Britain’s Ocean City and one of the leading sailing destinations in Europe, and enthusiasts hope to see the hugely successful event return to the harbour again.
EVENT: Competitors taking part in the Solitaire arrived into Sutton Harbour at the end of leg one of the race in 2014, and visitors were able to enjoy seeing the world-class yachts berthed in the harbour and meet some of the crews during the stopover.
Plymouth enjoyed a true regatta feel as excitement built ahead of the second leg of the month-long, four leg race launching.
