Community

Sutton Harbour is located in the heart of Plymouth adjacent to the Barbican and within the historic quarter of the city. We support city based arts, sports, community and tourist initiatives.

We take an active role in the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership; a business led organisation working to create a more profitable trading environment and enhanced visitor experience of Plymouth's waterfront. Working in partnership with Destination Plymouth, Plymouth City Centre Company, Plymouth City Council and other relevant public agencies and associations, it delivers leadership along with operational and marketing improvements for the Business Improvement District (BID) area.

Sutton Harbour Marina was the successful hosting harbour of the start of the Artemis Transat Race in 2008, the finishing port for the Rolex Fastnet Race in 2011 and 2009 and the Solitaire Du Figaro in 2014. We have the double objective of stimulating tourism for the city's benefit, and also showcasing the developments around Sutton Harbour, which have created a vibrant port for leisure, commercial and residential use.

We support the 'on water' activities with Plymouth Waterfront Partnership as we berth visiting tall ships as part of the events programme; the Seafood Festival, The Ecover Blue Mile, Sutton Harbour Classic Boat Rally, The French Classic Weekend, the Barbican Jazz and Blues festival and the Port of Plymouth Regatta.

Sutton Harbour is also hosting a number of art events and exhibitions as part of our drive to maximise the use of vacant units to benefit the community. We have hosted pop-up events and given space to local start-up businesses, artists and craftspeople.

  • Some of the region’s best-loved artists including popular Plymouth painter Brian Pollard and Westcountry wildlife artist Dick Twinney will using unit one at East Quay House in Sutton Harbour for a free arts event entitled 21 Days of Art during December this year.
  • Amateur arts and crafts people from the city have been given an opportunity to showcase and sell their work at The Pinnacle Arts Fair, a bi-weekly event supported by Sutton Harbour Holdings plc over six months in an empty shop unit.

CHARITY

Sutton Harbour Holdings plc is now a corporate member of St Luke's Hospice. The hospice relies heavily on support from the local community; it needs to raise the equivalent of £9 a minute just to be able to continue its work.

It provides specialist palliative medical and nursing care to 2,800 patients across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall every year. Alongside the medical care, the hospice also offers practical, financial, emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families.

As a corporate member, we want to support St Luke's and involve ourselves in fundraising, encouraging all employees to become involved. Whether it is participating in the Midnight Walk for Women, donating unwanted clothing, entering the weekly lottery through to taking part in employee volunteering days.
