PLYMOUTH FISHERIES

Plymouth Fisheries sells more than 6,000 tonnes of fish every year – of which 75 per cent arrives by road – and is viewed by many as the fisheries hub of the region, sustaining over 600 direct and indirect jobs. It is the second largest fish market in England by value.

Records were broken again this Autumn with more fish landed in Plymouth since the fish market first opened almost two decades ago. Gross sales of fish sold at auction at our thriving fisheries hub exceeded £2.14million in October, compared to £1.22million during the same month last year. This is believed to be the highest amount sold during a month-long period since the fish market first opened in 1995.

Sutton Harbour Holdings plc is currently investing in improving and updating facilities at the fish market, and work is well underway on the construction of a vital new £1.2million ice production facility due to open in early 2015 to enable Plymouth Fisheries to strengthen its position as one of the best places in the region to land a catch.

Plymouth Fisheries is managed and supported by fishing professionals who understand the pressures, risks and frustrations that fishermen face. We also understand that quotas and running costs mean fishing efficiently is the only way to stay in profit and remain afloat. We can provide the backup that fishermen need when they land their catch. Our location with great road links mean that fishermen can return to sea assured that their catch will arrive at the processors in perfect condition.
