The lock bridge in Sutton Harbour connecting the National Marine Aquarium to the Barbican area reopens today (Fri 14th) after upgrading work was completed this week.
The swing bridge repair was part of a widespread package of improvements to the harbour area funded by Sutton Harbour Holdings, including a total replacement of all the floating walkways in the harbour carried out earlier this month.
The popular pedestrian bridge was closed this week for a brand new bearing mechanism to be installed, which has been manufactured to make the bridge operate more effectively.
Charlotte Malcolm, Commercial Marketing Manager for Sutton Harbour Holdings plc, said: “A temporary solution was installed to keep the lock bridge working throughout the busy summer months but now a newly manufactured bearing assembly has been fitted, and the bridge re-opens this afternoon (Fri 14th).”
The improvements are part of a planned wider programme of investment by Sutton Harbour Holdings plc in the popular waterfront destination, which has also seen a £1.2million investment in Plymouth Fisheries, England’s second largest fresh fish market.
